Something a bit different today. If you are a budding sudoku solver there will be another sudoku technique along tomorrow.
I just wanted to air a question today. What is it that makes people pronounce and spell sudoku in so many different ways? The problem with the word is that it uses syllable that all tend to be drawn out when spoken. Soo-doh-koo. Unfortunately the English speaking world can drag out both the “o” sound and the “u” sound, so the word doesn’t change length (as you listen) if you hack all the vowels around.
I’ve seen quite a few learned discussions about this all over the web. In fact, if you look, you’ll find countless whole sites with these spellings in the address! Then there are a whole load of purist language defenders who get quite up in arms about it all.
Does it matter, can’t we all just get along? At least if you put the wrong spelling into google it will correct you – as well as show you all those silly misspelt sites. Joking!
